Pay attention – the model is based on the records selected using the “Selection tool”
The Mahalanobis model ranks potential sites by their Mahalanobis distance to a vector expressing the mean environmental conditions of all the records in the environmental space. A certain distance threshold is then used to define the boundaries of the ecological niche. This algorithm produces an elliptic envelope that explicitly accounts for possible correlations between the environmental variables (Farber & Kadmon, 2003).
