Project goals
The main goal of BioGIS is to integrate the information available on the composition
and geographical distribution of the flora and fauna of Israel in a unified Geographical
Information System (GIS) that will be open to the public, accessible through the
Internet, and equipped with user-friendly, state-of-the-art tools for data analysis
and visualization. The system is being developed as a long-term, dynamic database,
and will reflect the current state of knowledge on the distribution of plant and
animal species in Israel.
Partnership
BioGIS is an alliance between the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, The Ministry
of Environmental Protection, the GIS Center and the National Collections of Natural
History at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the National Collections of Natural
History at Tel Aviv University, The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel
and the Israel Plant Gene Bank.
